How you are insured

  • With the EGK insurance card, you can pay for prescribed medication from the Specialties List directly at the pharmacy. No advance payment, no receipts to submit. Billing is handled automatically by your health insurance company.

  • EGK contributes to the costs of necessary aids, appliances and other items as well as transport and rescue operations.

  • If you are treated outside your canton of residence, basic insurance will pay the same costs as would have been incurred in your canton of residence.

  • With the choice of deductible from CHF 300 to CHF 2'500, you determine the total annual amount up to which you cover your own medical costs. Tailor your basic insurance to your personal situation.

Frequently asked questions

  • 01

In the traditional model, do you need a referral in order to see a specialist?

No. Under the traditional basic insurance model, a healthcare professional can be consulted directly and without prior referral.

  • 02

Does the free choice of hospital apply throughout Switzerland or only to the canton of residence?

The free choice of hospital applies to hospitals in your canton of residence. Treatment in another canton is also possible; basic insurance will then cover the costs up to the amount that would have been incurred in your canton of residence.

  • 03

How is medication billed via the insurance card?

Prescribed medication from the Specialties List can be paid for directly through the health insurer by using the insurance card at the pharmacy. This means that there is no need to make an advance payment or submit receipts for reimbursement later.

  • 04

Who is the traditional model suitable for?

The model is suitable for people who do not want any restrictions on their choice of doctor or hospital. EGK-Care and EGK-TelCare offer alternatives with different premium structures for those who are prepared to go to their family doctor or request a telemedicine consultation first.

  • 05

How does the deductible affect the premium in the traditional model?

The deductible can be freely chosen from CHF 300 to CHF 2,500. A higher deductible usually leads to a lower premium, as a larger proportion of the treatment costs is paid for by the patient themselves before basic insurance assumes any costs.

  • 06

What other costs does basic insurance cover under the traditional model?

In addition to treatment costs, basic insurance also contributes to the costs of aids, appliances and other items, transport and rescue operations.

What is the difference between the traditional EGK-TelCare model and the EGK-Care family doctor model?

Under the traditional model, the attending practice can be freely chosen without first having to contact a designated point. With EGK-Care, a personally chosen family practice is the first point of contact; with EGK-TelCare, the initial assessment is carried out by Medgate via phone or video call.
