Clearing up the woods with FC Breitenbach
FC Breitenbach’s E-team got stuck in with some hard work in the woods. Together with forester Thomas Suter and coach Patrick Marzetti, the lads piled wood into large heaps and created new habitats for small forest dwellers.
FC Breitenbach
FC Breitenbach is a football club based in the Schwarzbubenland region of the canton of Solothurn, with a strong focus on youth development. The E red team demonstrated through their efforts in the woods that sporting team spirit extends beyond the pitch.
The commitment
25 May 2022
The lads helped clear away the wood left lying around after felling. Neatly stacked into large piles, they serve several purposes: they provide a sheltered habitat for mice, lizards, birds and insects; they make room for new trees and plants; and they help prevent a wildfire from spreading.
After about eight months, selected saplings are fitted with tree guards to prevent wildlife from eating them.
The Forestry Commission provided sandwiches and drinks on Forest Day — a well-deserved end to a strenuous morning.
Training camp in Sumiswald
As a thank you for their efforts, EGK supported the team by contributing towards their training camp in Sumiswald. The week consisted of football in the mornings and afternoon activities such as climbing, making their own cheese and much more.
