Swiss orienteers won 6 medals at their home European Championships in Neuchâtel. Although the coronavirus pandemic made a live audience impossible, all the competitions were broadcast on television and drew three million viewers to the screen – a triumph for orienteering and for EGK and inspiring countless Swiss people for this multifaceted sport and its sustainable message.
For the Swiss orienteering elite, the 2018 European Championships in Ticino were an al-most never-ending success. The Swiss team won 11 medals. With EOC 2018, EGK also gained a widespread presence in print media and television as presenting partner and was thus able to draw attention to its objective of sustainable health promotion.
The successful partnership with Swiss Orienteering kicked off with the 2016 Junior World Orienteering Championships in Lower Engadine, where EGK-Gesundheitskasse appeared as presenting partner for the first time. EGK also gave its name to the charity run “EGK: RUN for HIF,” thanks to which CHF 14,740 was raised for the sport class of the HIF Swiss International School and Sports Academy and thus promoted up-and-coming ath-letes.
The 2019 Orienteering World Cup in Laufen was very close to EGK’s heart: to celebrate its 100th anniversary, it was able to welcome the world elite of orienteering in its hometown as presenting partner. It also became clear that orienteering is becoming increasingly popular as a sport: all competitions were broadcast on SRF Swiss Television and the orienteering festival, which took place at the same time, was enjoyed by countless visitors.
EGK and its commitment to orienteering gained the attention of the international orienteer-ing community in its capacity as the main sponsor of the Orienteering World Cup final in Grindelwald in 2017. Thanks to numerous family and spectator events, visitors in particular were also able to experience and get to know EGK as a sponsor of sustainable exercise. EGK also used this opportunity to make initial contact with its future health ambassador Elena Roos, who was able to take home a gold and a silver medal from Grindelwald.
